Palmyra Takes Center Stage at MIA Market’s Drama Pitching Sessions in Rome

Cinemoz was thrilled to present Palmyra, an ambitious, boundary-pushing dramatic thriller inspired by true events, during the drama co-production market and pitching forum at the MIA Market in Rome on October 17th. This year’s forum featured 14 exceptional series projects from 12 countries, highlighting Palmyra as a standout among the selected international co-productions.

Created by Carol Mezher and Gabriela Flores, Palmyra unfolds a gripping story of emancipation, heritage, and power as it follows three generations of women navigating art, identity, and legacy in a war-torn Middle East. Set against the iconic landscapes of Palmyra and Baalbeck and expanding into several European cities, the story tackles the complex question of who truly owns art—delving into the intricate worlds of collectors, middlemen, and custodians amid cultural and historical upheaval on a global scale. Through the lives of these women, Palmyra highlights themes of art trafficking, cultural guardianship, and self-determination, questioning what we choose to preserve and at what cost.

The event brought together a diverse audience of international industry professionals, sparking engaging discussions about storytelling rooted in Middle Eastern and global heritage.

As a Lebanese-French co-production supported by the Doha Film Institute, Palmyra combines thriller and heist elements with a fresh perspective on Middle Eastern heritage, aiming to captivate global audiences. Cinemoz and The Project are thrilled to have shared this vision with MIA’s international community, as Palmyra is set to redefine the drama genre and elevate stories from the Arab world to the global stage.
