Cannes 2024: "Palmyra" Series awarded grant by Doha Film Institute

The Doha Film Institute (DFI - Qatar) has awarded a development grant to "Palmyra," an original series created by Carol Mezher and Gabriela Flores, co-produced by Cinemoz (Lebanon) and The Project (France). This grant is part of the DFI’s 2024 Spring Grants cycle, unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival.

Inspired by true events and characters, "Palmyra" is a compelling female-driven series weaving an intricate art heist narrative against the backdrop of the ancient city of Palmyra during the Syrian war. The series promises to explore themes of filiation, friendship, art racketeering, and cultural appropriation, intertwining family heritage with World heritage.

The writers behind "Palmyra" are set to deliver a powerful and poignant dramatic thriller that will resonate with audiences globally. The Doha Film Institute's grant is a significant endorsement for the project's upcoming stages.
